Last Christmas I went to the beautiful city of London to capture the magic of winter in Hyde Park. I decided to bring only the Helios 44/2 and the new Lensbaby Trio 28 with me. I will write a seperate blog post about the new Lensbaby Trio 28 since I was asked to review it. This post is only about the Helios 44/2.

I'm a huge fan of manual focus lenses. Why? Because it makes me more creative. And I'm a strong believer that the less you have, the more creative you'll become. Especially when it comes to photography gear! I see a lot of photographers with even more gear than I ever had in my entire photography life! And I see also that they become less creative because of all the choices they have to make. To me it's just like eating a pizza in a restaurant. When I can choose between 20 different pizza's, I can't decide which one to choose. So I always end up with the same. On the other hand, when there are only five to choose off, I will pick each time a different one. And that goes the same with camera gear. One lens, one camera! That keeps my head clear from the noise of choosing what to use. And so I can focus on what photography is all about... Capturing life!

I still am a huge fan of the Fuji X series as you can read in my previous posts but I decided to try my vintage lenses on a Sony A7II since it's a Full Frame mirrorless. And I must say that I love the Helios even better on the Sony because of it's smoothness and I.Q of the RAW files on Full Frame. Never the less, I still think that the JPG's of the Fuji X camera's are more beautiful. And the Fuji X is certainly way more sexier that a Sony when we talk about the looks of the camera. But in the end it's all about the I.Q. So I personally don't care which camera I have to use aslong it gives me the images that i'm looking for. And for this reason I brought the Sony A7 II with me to London.

Than the Helios... Well, I don't have a lot to say about it except that I LOVE this old lens! With the right adapter it will fit on every mirrorless camera. And thanks to the focus peaking, manual focussing is a piece of cake!

Anyway... I will let the images speak for themselves..

For the love of Helios and backlight! :)

My summer at Mallorca beach with the Fujifilm Xpro 2

It has been a while since my last blog post. I decided to take a two months break from teaching during the summer to get inspired and to reload for the next season of mentoring. My first trip for this summer was to the Spanish Island of Mallorca with my family. Mallorca is a beautiful island in the mediterranean sea and perfect for a family vacation and some photography.
It was the first time that we went there but definitely not the last time! What a gorgeous place with the small, hidden beaches, nice people, amazing food but most of all, the very clear, almost emerald water! A real sight for sour eyes! A lot of my days at Mallorca started with watching a beautiful sunrise and capturing images with my children who are also Fujifilm freaks. My son has the Fujifilm X-E1, my oldest daughter the X-T1 and the youngest has also an X100S.  I guess you can call us the Fujifilm Family ;)

For this vacation I brought the Fujifilm Xpro 2 and the X100s, the Fujinon lenses 16-55 F/2.8 and of course... the Lensbaby Edge 80! Ever since I became the proud owner of the Fujifilm Xpro 2, I fall in love with this camera every day a bit more. It's so amazing! No matter what kind of photography you are shooting, portraiture, nature or street photography, the Xpro 2 nails it every, single time! Low light or harsh sun light is no problem for this camera. Along with the Fujinon 16-55mm, it's the perfect combination for city trips or vacations. The 16-55 is an amazing lens. Tack sharp and fast. It's as good as a prime! But don't underestimate the power of the "old" X100s! This little "perfect for my handbag" camera is like magic! Every single shot is a keeper! The X100s makes me think, stop and be more creative because I only shoot in Jpg with it.

The Lensbaby Edge 80 is one of my favorite and most used Lensbabies. I really love the tilt-shift effect of it and the bit of drama and painterly feel it gives to my images.

I shot a lot of images this summer. Not only at Mallorca but also in London and the Netherlands, where i live. I will dedicate a next post to my trip to London. For now, I stick with my Mallorca images. All images are shot in JPG because is was to lazy to edit all the images in RAW ;)  But thanks to the amazing dynamic range of the Xpro 2, that's no problem.

Hope you'll enjoy watching the images and thanks for viewing!

Just a last short note: Beware... It's a huge share ;)

Weather sealing Fujifilm X-pro2, Lensbaby Edge 80 + Zhongyi Lensturbo II

I love shooting during or just after the rain. The world seems to turn into something magical. The highlights are so shiny because of the little raindrops that are shining on the leafs and the rain really adds some drama to my images.
And on top of it, the Fujifilm X-pro2 has really proven itself to be weather sealed. It was raining very hard so we hide under the trees and kept shooting. No problem for the X-pro2. And even my Lensbabies were outstanding. Not one drop has leaked into my camera or Lensbabies.  The second image was shot with the Canon 5D MK III. Just after the rain has stopped. I was too afraid of using it during the rain. But that's maybe something to try out the next time ;)
