I'm obsessed with black & white movies. What i like about them is the use of light and shadows. Back in the days there was only black & white film so to enhance the mood of the scene, the only thing they had was the light and set up.
Simply because there was no color film! I have studied a lot of old movies just because of this. If you want to know what i'm talking about, just grap some popcorn and watch some old school movies like Casablanca, Citizen Kane or The grapes of wrath.
For these series of images, i took my Fujifilm XT1 along with the Fujinon 35mm 1.4 & Fujinon 90mm 2.0. Usually i shoot in RAW but with the Fuji i only shoot in JPG. When shooting in B&W, the in camera film simulation is set to BW+R. Why JPG and not RAW? I'm old school and when i shoot analoge i can't shoot RAW either. I have to decide which roll of film i'm gonna and if i'm gonna use a B&W or color film. I'm a ferm believer that everything has got to be right in camera. So i don't chimp, tweak, crop etc.. To me, the SOOC has to be good! Besides that, i really feel that shooting JPG makes me a better photographer because it forces me to think before I click!
Why the light weighted and handsom Fuji instead of my heavy, but still beloved, Canon (who unfortunately stays in my bag since i layed my hands of the Fuji a few years ago). Well, just because I can ;) Seriously, the Fuji camera is so amazing and it brings me back to the good old days with my first love.. Analoge. <3 Besides that, the Fujinon lenses are simply amazing! Tack sharp and spot on!
The only thing i'm waiting for is the release of the XPro 2. Can't wait to get my hands on that beautiful Across film simulation and the joystick to toggle my focus points! By the way, i'm not sponsored by Fuji to praise there camera's and lenses. They're simply just amazing!
But enough about how amazing the Fujifilm camera's and lenses are... In the end it's always all about the light!
I hope you enjoying this series of the beautiful model Roos.
One light, one camera!
